Australia will feature a quality cast of entrants in this weekend’s opening round of the FIM Endurance World Championship at Magny Cours in France, the prestigious Bol d’Or 24 Hours.

Rick Olson and Wayne Maxwell will partner Igor Jerman in the Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART), the pair joining the team for their first 24-hour experience.

“I can’t wait to be honest,” Olson told CycleOnline. “I’m obviously keen to do it and try something new, but everybody has told me it’s one of the hardest things you can do on the bike. I don’t know what to expect, but I do realise it will be tough.

“To have a crack at a world championship event with all the competitors over there will be good, so I’m looking forward to see how I go. I haven’t ridden the bike at night yet either, so that will be new as well.”

Alongside Olson and Maxwell at Bol d’Or, other Australians on the grid include Damian Cudlin as fourth rider in the world champion Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT), and his brother Alex Cudlin in the QMMF Racing Team Superstock squad.

Also in Superstock, Bryan Staring will make a surprise appearance with Team Traqueur Louit Moto 33 Kawasaki after losing his World Supersport ride, while Gareth Jones will be on board a Team R2CL Suzuki in the Superbike ranks.

British championship regular Jason O’Halloran will also be on hand for the event, the reserve rider for the official Honda Racing Superbike campaign.
