Quotebook: 2014 ASC Rd2 Mallala

South Australian superbike rundown direct from the riders.

Wayne Maxwell (Team Honda Racing):
I am thrilled to take the championship lead and had a fantastic weekend on the Motul Honda. Team Honda Racing, and in particular my crew chief Warren has been just fantastic. The team worked really well together and it was great to get a Honda 1-2.

Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing):
Round two did not quite go to plan for me, but 2nd is still a strong position for now. I felt good on the CBR1000RR SP and raced consistently, but I had a couple of minor moments and Wayne was right there to take full advantage. Well done to Wayne on a great weekend he raced really well. It was really good to see Honda finish the event 1st and 2nd and I am looking forward to Queensland Raceway for round three.

Troy Herfoss (Team Honda Racing):
It was a solid weekend of racing for me this weekend. I couldn’t seem to place higher than 5th for each race, but my lap times were quite strong and I think with a few changes to the bike before Queensland I will be racing at the front. I now sit fourth in championship points which means I am still well and truly in the mix.

Josh Hook (Team Honda Racing):
It was a very hard weekend for me. My first event since surgery a couple of months ago and although I was able to maintain a certain level of fitness in the down time I really felt it this weekend. I feel the time off the bike and not having a lot of time on the new tyres put me behind the 8 ball a bit. I didn’t qualify well and it really hurt me for the races. Still, I took 38 points from the weekend and will now focus on round three in Queensland.

Glenn Scott (Team InsureMyRide Racing):
We really did experience the ups and downs of racing this weekend, to walk away from Saturday with a podium was great but of course the crash on Sunday really didn’t help our chances of backing up our result with some more silverware. I was disappointed to have not been able to compete in Formula Oz due to mechanical dramas with our bike but I am sure the amount we have learnt from this weekend will most certainly help us leading into Queensland Raceway and the remaining rounds. I can’t thank my team, sponsors and supporters enough for the weekend, it certainly wasn’t easy at times but we all worked together to make sure we could give it our best shot every time we hit the track. I’d also like to extend a special thanks to Dave Moore who allowed us to setup our bikes from his workshop and house our truck in between the test and racing. I can’t wait to get to Queensland and step back on the podium once more.

Robbie Bugden (YRT with YMI):
We all worked hard between the rounds and the test session we did here proved invaluable. During the test we were able to get some good gains from the bike, get settled with the tyres and for myself to get more bike time on the R1. It’s nice to get a reward for the effort we put in between the rounds and now the challenge is to maintain this level at each and every event for the remainder of the championship.

Cru Halliday (YRT with YMI):
The weekend was far more positive for me and everyone on the team. We were far more competitive right from the outset and it felt good to be back up the front and battling for race wins. The bike performed much better and we now have a solid base to work from for the rest of the year, so we hope to keep the momentum rolling at the upcoming rounds.

Mike Jones (Crazy Dogs Kawasaki):
It was certainly a ground breaking weekend for myself and the Crazy Dogs Kawasaki ZX10, we made a lot of developments based upon our experience in testing. To qualify inside the top ten and finish every race there was incredible and our second place was just amazing, I couldn’t take the smile off my face after that. I feel we are really developing well in the Superbike category and I hope to be able to secure more podium positions in the near future, especially at my home track at Queensland Raceway at the next round. I’ll be certain to be working hard on getting our setup right so we can take it up to the factory riders once again.

Aiden Wagner (Yamaha):
Our weekend didn’t go as well as we would have first liked at the start with our mechanical dilemmas but I am happy to know I am still continually matching it with the top four in every race. Our brake issue on Saturday was disappointing for myself but we rectified that for Sunday’s races and the results showed immediately. The next round at Queensland Raceway will be a big one for me being my home track so I have to get to work on setups and some testing and hopefully I can step up to the top spot on the podium.

Callum Spriggs (Yamaha):
I’m really happy with how I performed throughout the weekend, I’m especially excited to have held onto my lead in the Swann Series and it’s something I’ll be hoping to continue at Queensland Raceway. It was a great battle throughout the weekend with my main rivals and it certainly kept me busy every time we were on the track. I feel we made some good advancements in setup and I think I have really improved my starts which is going to help me moving forward in the series. I have to send a special thanks to Tim from Just Conditioning for helping me with my own physical preparation, six races across two days can be very demanding. The next round will be a big one at my home track and it will be tough but I feel I am up to the challenge.

Kyle Buckley (BCperformance A1 Kawasaki):
The weekend went almost perfectly, we managed to get the bike set up well from the start giving us a bit of an edge over the competition. Then from there things seemed to fall into place and I am stoked with my overall win, huge thanks must go to the BCperformance A1 Kawasaki team for giving me a bike that does everything I ask of it. I’m now super keen to get back to my home circuit at Queensland Raceway where we will be trying to replicate this.

Angus Reekie (KTM):
Mallala was really good to us. I’d never been there before but I followed a few riders who had and picked up the lines quickly. We worked on the bike on Saturday and got it set up to look after the tyres and handle really well. It was good off the corners, and absolutely fantastic under brakes, and that’s where we were really able to make places was under brakes. I had to come from third or fourth each race, so it was a battle all the way, with good, fast, close racing and I was really relieved to come out on top because a couple of the local guys were really quick.
