Race Recap: Callum Spriggs

Queenslander recalls second ASC Supersport win of 2014 at Mallala.

With back-to-back round wins in the Supersport category of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship, Callum Spriggs is coming of age in season 2014. Two rounds down, four to go and Spriggs has a slim seven-point margin over Aaron Morris heading into his home round next month. CycleOnline.com.au catches up with the quietly-spoken Queenslander to reflect on his Mallala victory.

Callum, back-to-back round wins, it’s a little bit disappointing about that last race being canned, but talk us through your weekend. You must be pretty happy!

Yeah, back-to-back round wins is pretty awesome. Today was pretty good, it’s all I want to do is be consistent and stay in the points lead. But it was a shame about the last race not going ahead. It would have been an all-out duel with us four riders up the front. I was looking forward to that race for sure, it’s a shame. But overall I’m happy with our round win for this round. I’m really looking forward to the next round now.

So how much confidence has this second round win given you personally?

Heaps of confidence! I don’t want to get too much confidence, but yeah it feels good that’s for sure. To go into round three at Queensland will be a massive boost.

Well, that was my next question, next round we head to the ‘Paperclip’, which is your home round. Do you think you will have any advantage seeing it’s your own backyard? Yourself and Aiden [Wagner] seem to go very well there.

Yeah, we both seem to go very well there. But it’s just like here at Mallala, everyone can go quick on track, so everyone will be in the boat I reckon. We should hopefully have a little bit of an advantage though.

For you, what was your best race at Mallala? Race one or two?

First race for sure! I was leading almost the whole race. That is the most ideal thing is to do, so the first race is my pick.

Thank you very much for your time.

No worries, thanks for that.
