Glenn Allerton (Dynotech Pirelli BMW) has taken out the Superbike class of the Australian Superbike Championship using Pirelli Diablo Superbike Tyres. The final round was held at the iconic Phillip Island circuit, in cold and occasionally wet conditions over the two days of qualifying and racing.

The weekend saw some very close racing in the Superbike class, with fellow Pirelli riders Jed Metcher (Race Centre Kawasaki) and Linden Magee (Linden Magee Racing BMW) rounding out a Pirelli 1-2-3 for the weekend’s racing on Diablo Superbike.

Riders chose from Diablo Superbike SC1 and SC2 for front tyre fitment, while on the rear at this this demanding circuit all riders could choose from SCX 1633, standard SC1 and standard SC2 tyres.

Allerton also took the Superpole for the weekend just ahead of Metcher and Magee on the Saturday in the cool and challenging conditions. Scattered rain on the Sunday meant wet races for some classes where Pirelli’s Diablo Rain came to the fore, but fortunately the races for the Superbike class were held in dry conditions, albeit with some very low track temperatures.

In these tough conditions Pirelli’s development and experience at World Superbike level at Phillip Island circuit shone through, with the 1633 the most popular rear in conjunction with SC1 front showing very fast lap times and also impressive durability over race distances at a notoriously tough track for tyres.

Glenn Allerton: “I’m really happy to deliver Pirelli its first Australian Superbike Championship in many years. I think maybe we should have got it last year, but I’m really happy with this year’s result.

“The Pirelli tyres work really well at Phillip Island and in the longer races, with my fastest time in race one recorded on the last lap of the race showing just how good these tyres perform lap after lap. I would like to thank Link International and Pirelli for their support this year to achieve the Australian Superbike Championship win.”

In the Supersport class, Oz Wildcard supported rider Aiden Wagner (Yamaha) took the round win on Diablo Supercorsa SC.

These were also a popular choice in the Supersport class, with Diablo Supercorsa SC1 front and rear being Wagner’s choice in the cooler conditions and also proving to be the most popular choice amongst the Pirelli riders, although some riders did use SC0 rears throughout the weekend.
