BMW has pulled the covers off its 2015 S 1000 RR and revealed a sharper-looking superbike with a claimed 199hp (148kW) and weighing in four kilograms lighter.

A majority of the performance improvement has come from an extensively redesigned cylinder head and airbox, a change that also provides more torque lower in the rev range.

The inlet manifolds have been reangled and camshafts redesigned, while inlet lengths shortened to give the S1000RR more punch in the bottom-end.

The weight saving on the new S1000RR has come predominately from the new style exhaust and a lighter battery helped too. The styling change is sharper, though not too removed from before but every panel is redesigned.

Not to disappoint with technological innovation, BMW has armed the S 1000 RR with the latest in electronic wizardry: Launch control, pit lane limiter and cruise control – the first superbike with cruise control.

Base model S 1000 RR’s in Australia will run ABS, ride modes, quickshifter, traction control and cruise control. If you want the electronic damping control or heated grips you will have to pay extra.

The electronics get an added bit of functionality to the standard three riding modes get an additional Pro mode that allows riders to load in your own settings.

The frame is lighter and all the main reference points have been changed for improved handling and traction: rake, trail, wheelbase and swingarm pivot point. Electronic damping control is also an option on this machine now, as it was for the HP4 previously.

BMW also introduced the new R 1200 R nakedbike and R 1200 RS sports-tourer. Both based around the latest generation of Boxer engine, they are another two exciting additions to BMW’s 2015 range.
