Team Honda Racing’s Josh Hook converted his pole position to the opening Phillip Island Championship race win on Friday at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Hook sprinted away from the pack with a phenomenal 9.385s victory late this afternoon, setting the race fastest lap in the process at 1m32.863.

The only person close to the pace of Hook was Motul-backed teammate Maxwell, who crashed out on lap six and forced fellow factory Fireblade campaigner Jamie Stauffer to take evasive action.

That turn of events saw Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports BMW) leap to second, fending off Troy Herfoss on the fourth of the Hondas for position, as Stauffer recovered for a fighting fourth.

Top Prostock finisher was BikeBiz Kawasaki-mounted Sean Condon in fifth, marginally beating home Mike Jones for that honour.

The Superbike antics will continue on Saturday, with race two scheduled for 8:55am directly prior to the world championship free practice sessions.

The next outing for the Superbike riders is at 8:55am on Saturday.
