Product: Pirelli Scorpion Rally Tyres

Two new sizes released for high displacement adventure bikes.

Pirelli has announced the addition of two new sizes to the Scorpion Rally range, designed specifically for high displacement adventure bikes like the BMW R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure and KTM 1190 Adventure.

Australian riders of these high displacement adventure bikes can experience a wide range of terrain, including normal asphalt road riding, gravel roads, water crossings, mud and loose gravel and more, as these are all part of the Australian landscape.

These environments allow the perfect opportunity to display the versatility of the new Scorpion Rally adventure bike sizes when fitted to these motorcycles.

A perfect example of this new tyres trusted performance across such a broad range of terrain is that the new Scorpion Rally was the tyre of choice for the BMW Off Road Training instructors at the most recent BMW GS Safari held in Tasmania last month.

Front tread pattern:
Tread pattern for the new 120/70R-19 front Scorpion Rally maintains the same 4-5-4 layout of the blocks used on the 90/90-21 Rally, which was used to win both Cross Country Rally races and Dakar in conjunction with the 140/80-18 rear size. A New 7.7mm knob height on this new front size is designed to optimize handling, directional stability on sand and soft terrain, and to increase the life of the tyre for increased mileage.

Rear tread pattern:
The new 170/60R-17 rear has wider blocks with long transverse bridges designed to provide better traction on soft terrain and reduce slides, so that riders can have full confidence when leaning into corners in these conditions.

Structure:
The primary focus of structural development off the new Scorpion Rally was to provide the rider with stability at high speeds, confidence and safety, especially on long distance road and highway rides in Australia. Stability at high speeds is achieved thanks to the use of a carcass with thick ply cords arranged at just the right angles to provide increased lateral rigidity, which helps to reduce vibration often associated with large enduro bikes at high speed. These structural characteristics of the carcass ply also guarantee vertical rigidity, which together with the use of reinforcing elements within the tyre’s bead, provide a balance between the carcass and the tread which is itself softer thanks to the this new tread pattern design. The end result is a tyre that is a well-balanced, reliable performer capable of providing comfort on asphalt while keeping a knobby tread pattern for confident performance in sand and softer terrain.

Compound:
The new Scorpion Rally sizes have an innovative compound developed with particular attention to the dual purpose use of this tyre. In off road use, this new compound shows high resistance to tearing and cuts, which can have even more impact when riding on asphalt. A strong focus is also on mileage: the new tyre now has increased durability at high speed and wears more evenly
over the life of the tyre.

Scorpion Rally tyres in new sizes 120/70-19 and 170/60-17 are available now at your local Pirelli Stockist. Recommended retail for the front is $229, with the rear recommended retail of $285.
