Radar: 2015 FX-ASC Rd1 Sydney Motorsport Park

Unsung performers from Sydney's first stop of the season.

CycleOnline.com.au highlights three standout performances from the weekend’s first round of the 2015 Australasian Superbike Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park. Radar isn’t intended to be strictly about the winners, it’s about the unsung racers that we spot punching above their weight on any given race weekend.

Troy Guenther (Fresh Chef/PI Technical/Wallace Kawasaki) – Supersport, 2nd overall:
If you haven’t heard of Queensland 16-year-old Troy Guenther before, chances are you will in 2015 on many occasions. In his first season on board a ZX-6R in Supersport, Guenther was an impressive second overall in Sydney after a shining Sunday with 4-2-4 finishes. The Moto3 graduate finished with a high of second in race two, which will go a long way for his confidence as the season goes on, and chances are he will only keep getting better from here.

Angus Reekie (KTM Racing/Motorex/Bell Helmets/SBS) – Nakedbikes/Pro-Twins, 1st overall:
Reekie is well credentialed in both Supermoto and now road racing as a national champion, but his further progression in Sydney was certainly an eye-catcher. Reekie rode his immaculate 1290 Super Duke R to a new lap record of 1m33.623s and won two from three races against a flying Beau Beaton (on his Vincent 1600), once again showing that he is all class on his thumping KTM. Now, if only the Austrian brand brought out an updated Superbike for him to race in the premier ranks – he has the talent to be in the mix.

Ryan Masri (Aitkens Bike & Power/Fast Track Comms/Ipone Kawasaki) – FX300 Ninja Cup, 3rd overall:
After finishing seventh in last year’s standings, 18-year-old Masri was a big improver at round one and found himself on the Sunday overall podium at the end of the weekend. As top of the Under 20s, Masri gradually improved all weekend and was rewarded with his results.
