In-form Team Honda Racing rider Troy Herfoss has taken the Pirelli Superpole at Phillip Island’s fifth and final round of the 2015 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli.

Herfoss starred on his Pirelli-equipped CBR1000RR SP with a flying 1m32.852s on his second of just two laps, placing him 0.661s ahead of teammate Jamie Stauffer.

Behind the leading Honda duo came 2015 ASBK champion Mike Jones (Australian Outdoor Living / Cube Racing Team Kawasaki), just 0.008s further in arrears.

The top five was completed by Daniel Falzon (JD Racing / Caterpillar EPSA Yamaha), 0.894s off of Jones, and New Zealand’s Ryan Hampton (Next Gen Motorsports BMW). Marginally behind them came Linden Magee (LMR Honda).

In Supersport it was title leader Brayden Elliott (Suzuki) who smashed the field as he sets himself up at a clear run toward the championship tomorrow; his 1m36.945s from this morning’s first session 1.257s ahead of Chas Hern (Suzuki).

Trailing closely behind came Sam Lambert (Triumph), Chris Quinn (Yamaha) and Ryan Taylor (Yamaha) filling the top five – all within the 1m38s bracket. Title challenger Kane Burns (Suzuki) overcame a variety of difficulties to qualifying 13th today.

Racing commenced this afternoon for the support categories, with the opening Production bout belonging to Drew Sells over Zackary Johnson, Robbie Menzies and Justin Hall – the quartet separated by just 0.046s at race’s end.

Meanwhile in the first Moto3/125GP race of the weekend, Matt Barton cruised to a commanding victory of 5.639s over Brian Houghton and Lachlan Kavney.

The Hartwell Rising Stars race victory today was taken out by Honda-mounted Ryan Lawes, comfortably ahead of Ali Tajvar (Suzuki) and Jason Spencer (Honda).
