Verdict:
Maxwell was flawless at Winton, winning all three races on Saturday and then repeating that feat on Sunday when it really counted. That was the most comfortable I’ve seen Maxwell on board the YZF-R1M and any perceived advantage the Honda had in terms of handling looks to be dissolved, looking from the outside. Herfoss was on the edge though, which had him right in the mix, however a couple of costly mishaps (false neutrals) in race one really cost him. You can see the tension building between the pair now, tied with one round remaining, almost to the point we can expect to see things boil over at some stage in Sydney. And 24 points behind them is Allerton, who was second overall at Winton, and he’s planning a lot of laps in the lead-up to the final round and stands as a legitimate outside chance. As for the others, Halliday was strong in race one but couldn’t get off the line otherwise, Jones was typically quick at times, and the likes of Ben Burke, Matthew Walters were able to shine as well. We’d expected more from Stauffer, although he did look a touch better in that final race, and he’s certain to mix it up come round seven.

Verdict:
It looked as though Spriggs would enter the final round on top of the SUpersport standings after Winton, however a determined effort from Elliott with that final race win saw him rebound back to the top of the points table. On top overall was Blair and he deserved to win on Sunday, but both he and Spriggs are really beginning to find their feet back at the very front of the Supersport field. It’s going to be an interesting end to the season, especially considering these guys can actually drop their worst round – we haven’t done the calculations of where they stand up until now – however there could be some surprises when all’s said and done. It’s an incredibly strong field and great to witness!
