First Pole Positions on a Superbike –
Michael Blair was the only rider to record a time in the 69’s in Fridays qualifying, this time placed him in pole position for the AFX Superbike Championship races to be held on Saturday. Placing 2 nd in 3 out of 3 races on Saturday Michael placed 2 nd overall and is now 2 nd in the AFX Championship. “The Yamaha IPONE R1 felt great all day, I was able to get good drive out of turn 2 which helped me keep up with Robbie” Glen Allerton has been helping with suspension and riding tips, his expertise has been a huge help.

First fastest laps recorded in a Superbike race.-Race 2 & 3 AFX Superbike Championship 9th July
“Recording a fastest lap in a race against the competition in the AFX is an achievement. The team had the Yamaha R1 working well and I was able to record consistent 69’s for most of the day, the Dunlop tyres also performed very good in race conditions.” The combination enabled Michael to achieve fastest laps in 2 from three races.

First Crash in a Superbike race
Race 2 on Sunday, Michael started off from Position 1, at the exit of turn 3 Michael lost the front, “I was able to ride it to the pits for repairs but was devastated. One second I was up the next I was down and all I could think of was I’ll have to start from last on the grid, it wasn’t how I wanted my weekend to finish.” The damage to the Yamaha Ipone R1 was repaired in time. A huge thanks to Mick Poole, John Allen and Matt Blair for getting it ready for Race 3. Michael was able to take his place in 16 th on the grid.

Riding with determination and ready to give it his very best shot at achieving the best possible result the flag dropped and Michael fought back making places in each corner. Once again riding smoothly and with consistent fast times, the final placing of 3 rd was decided by Video review as it was too close even for electronic timing .022 between 2 nd and 3 rd place.

Michael Blair continues to improve his racecraft in his rookie year while trying to learn and improve on the Yamaha IPONE R1.
