Herfoss concludes Morgan Park ASBK test on top

Lap records broken during two-day test at Queensland venue.

Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss topped Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli testing at Morgan Park in Queensland at the conclusion of Thursday’s running.

On debut at the Warwick-based venue Herfoss posted a flying 1m14.419s laptime, well below ASBK champion Mike Jones’ existing pole record of 1m15.368s set on his way to a dominant weekend last season.

Herfoss edged out Yamaha Racing Team’s current title leader Wayne Maxwell at 1m14.446s, while Cru Halliday (Yamaha Racing Team) was the final rider to officially lap beneath the 1m15s bracket in third overall. Glenn Allerton (Yamaha Racing Team) and Jamie Stauffer (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) completed the top five.

Last year’s Morgan Park 1-2 finishers Jones and Daniel Falzon (JD Racing Yamaha) didn’t complete laps with transponders during the two-day test, however both have reported unofficial times within the 1m14s.

In Supersport it was World Supersport regular Lachlan Epis who set the official pace in a guest appearance working with Next Gen Motorsports, his 1m16.636s laptime quicker than Luke Mitchell (Yamaha) and Callum Spriggs (Cube Racing Kawasaki).

Topping the charts in Moto3 with a 1m23.614s was lone timed rider Locky Taylor (Honda), while Broc Pearson (Kawasaki) and Tom Toparis (Kawasaki) led the way in Production, also underneath current track records.

The fifth and penultimate round of the 2016 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli season will take place at Morgan Park in Queensland on 5-7 August.
