The YART Yamaha Official EWC Team of Australian Broc Parkes has taken provisional pole at the Oschersleben 8 Hours in Germany, the final round of the 2016 Endurance World Championship.

After topping in free practice, YART consolidated its lead in qualifying to pick up the provisional pole ahead of defending champions Suzuki Endurance Racing Team and GMT94 Yamaha.

Despite the loss of MotoGP star Bradley Smith, who was rushed to hospital with a severe cut to his leg after crashing in free practice, YART Yamaha Official EWC Team powered to the lead in the first qualifying at the Oschersleben 8 Hours.

Parkes posted the fastest individual time with a 1m26.279s lap, topping his teammate Marvin Fritz’s 1m26.365s by a whisker. Suzuki Endurance Racing Team lapped less than a second behind with Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Etienne Masson to place ahead of GMT94 Yamaha, Team SRC Kawasaki and F.C.C. TSR Honda.

All five teams are in the running for the EWC title and are well positioned for the start of the Oschersleben 8 Hours. The current title leader Team April Moto Motors Events of Alex Cudlin is only 14th for now. Grégory Fastré suffered a crash, thereby slowing the team’s progress.
