Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss is in the frame to take his first Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli this weekend at Winton’s grand finale in Victoria.

Herfoss is positioned second in the championship points, standing a mathematical chance of clinching the title if he can overcome the seven-point advantage that series leader Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha Racing Team) currently holds over him.

The 29-year-old, who won the 2010 ASBK Supersport title and last year’s Australasian Superbike Championship, is coming off a dominating win at Morgan Park’s penultimate round last month, a performance that placed him in title contention.

“At Morgan Park it was pretty much a fairy tale weekend for me,” Herfoss explained. “I was able to prove to myself and the rest of the field that we have what it takes to win. Being the final round this weekend, we’re obviously hoping to repeat last round’s performance.

“At this stage I’m sitting in a position in the championship where anything can happen, so I’ll be heading out there to qualify well and put in two solid races with the hope that will award me with an ASBK title at the end of the weekend.”

The New South Welshman stated that last week’s Winton ASBK test led the team to further develop their settings in the wet, although no matter what the conditions happen to be, he is remaining confident heading into the final round.

“When we went to Winton last week for the ASBK test it was pretty wet, but it gave us a great opportunity to refine our wet setup and we’re feeling confident regardless of the conditions this weekend,” he continued.
