This weekend’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will present a second chance for last year’s Australian Superbike champion Mike Jones to display his potential in MotoGP and he’s excited to get on-track Friday at Phillip Island.

With Avintia Racing regular remaining with the factory Ducati Team for Phillip Island, 22-year-old Jones is expecting to benefit from his previous wealth of experience at the Victorian venue, as well as his race mileage gained last Sunday at Motegi.

“I’m very excited to be racing the second time in MotoGP at my home circuit on Phillip Island,” Jones said. “It is fantastic to be racing with Avintia Racing and Ducati again, because I got to know the team last week when I raced with them at Motegi. It’s great to have another opportunity with them on Phillip Island this weekend.

“I think things should be a little bit easier for me, as I know the circuit and I also know the bike, so hopefully things will go a bit smoother this weekend. I’m very excited because since it’s my home GP, there will be a lot of support and the atmosphere will be fantastic. I can’t wait to jump on the bike and get the weekend started.”

DesmoSport Ducati’s Jones was rushed into Avintia Racing Ducati late last week for the Japanese GP in a move orchestrated by triple WorldSBK champion Troy Bayliss, not putting a foot wrong on debut aboard the GP14.2.
