Queensland veteran Anthony West travelled home to Australia from the Jerez WorldSBK round this week expecting to contest the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix for Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2.

With Remy Gardner not expected to make it home in time after he and father Wayne were involved in a traffic accident at Motegi last weekend, it’s understood the team called Aussie upon super-sub West.

However upon arriving at Phillip Island today, 35-year-old West learned that his opportunity had been removed, as team regular Gardner has in fact arrived in Australia for the round.

“Well that’s a big kick in ass to travel 37 hours to get to Phillip island to be told I’m not racing,” West wrote on his official Facebook Page. He went on to confirm he’s also departed the Pedercini Kawasaki WorldSBK team.

According to West, who already has a WorldSSP podium to his credit at Phillip Island this year aboard a privateer Yamaha, he’s heading back to Melbourne, however don’t be surprised to see an alternate team contact him if required during the weekend.
