Bugden clinches FX-ASC double with Dunlop in Sydney

Dunlop Tyres press release:

SA Kawasaki BCperformance’s Robbie Bugden has been crowned champion in both the 2016 Australasian Superbike Championship (FX-ASC) and Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK) following last weekend’s season finale at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Friday’s final round of the AFX-SBK saw Yamaha-mounted Michael Blair claim the round win after recording 3-1 results in mixed conditions, while Bugden was credited the runner-up position to seal the championship with a race to spare.

2015 British Superbike champion Josh Brookes made a guest appearance with the SA Kawasaki BCperformance outfit, where he secured pole position and the opening race win, before a fourth in race two awarded him the final spot on the podium overall.

Saturday’s FX-ASC round win was captured by Brookes, who raced to an impressive 3-1-1 scorecard in dry, warm conditions. Bugden was once again awarded second overall to be crowned champion ahead of the final race, with Blair concluding the top three with a race win to his name in the opener.

In Supersport, where riders also utilise Dunlop control rubber, Kyle Buckley (SA Kawasaki BCperformance) claimed duel titles in both championships, while Sam Muldoon (Kawasaki) and Mitch Levy (Yamaha) secured overall victories on Friday and Saturday respectively. Buckley was runner-up on both days, with third place being occupied by Mark Chiodo (Triumph) on Friday and Muldoon on Saturday.

In the final Dunlop-supplied category it was Beau Beaton (Ducati) who claimed all three race wins in the Pro-Twins and Nakedbikes division, collecting the championship in the process, as Simon Galloway (Yamaha) earned the open-tyre Formula Oz title after four dominant race victories on Saturday.

A new-look introductory AM-Sport 600 category was introduced at Sydney Motorsport Park’s finals, as Dunlop-mounted Grant Davis (Kawasaki) won six of the seven races for the overall. This category also features an open tyre policy.
