A new $20-million permanent pit building and hotel complex will be built at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia, the circuit which is estimated to be completed by the end of 2017.

The new four-level, 300-metre long pit building is the centrepiece for The Bend Motorsport Park, featuring four-star hotel accommodation with more than 70 percent of the rooms overlooking the circuit.

The complex incorporates an imposing welcome centre with enough showroom space for car displays that would rival many premium dealerships. With multiple function rooms, viewing decks and full commercial kitchen facilities, The Bend will be a conference venue with a difference where attendees can be treated to some adrenaline fuelled fun on the racing circuit or go kart track.

“We are determined for The Bend Motorsport Park to become an iconic, world-class destination for South Australia,” said Dr Sam Shahin, executive director for The Bend. “Building the hotel complex into the pit building is unique in Australia and one of only a few in the world. We are doing this to deliver the best-possible motorsport experience for racers and driving enthusiasts alike and will grow the adventure tourism sector in South Australia.”

Race teams are well catered for too with 34 pit garages, each measuring six x 12 metres – the equivalent of a four-car garage for most homes – dedicated briefing rooms, change-room and shower facilities.

Minister for sport and tourism Leon Bignell said: “This development is a game-changer for motorsport in Australia. It will be like nothing our nation has ever seen before. Not only will The Bend attract motor racing fans and professional and amateur drivers from around the world it will transform the area around Tailem Bend. A tourism drawcard like this will lead to further investment from related businesses which will spring up to provide goods and services to people visiting the park.”

Romaldi Constructions has been awarded the contract for the 12-month construction project, with anticipated completion in January 2018. The Bend Motorsport Park is a world-class, $100-million development located near Adelaide, catering for international events, national series racing, grass roots club events, safety training and experience programs.
