Goulburn’s Troy Herfoss remained atop the leader board in this morning’s first qualifying session at Wakefield Park’s Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli round.

With constant rain falling throughout the 30-minute session, defending champion Herfoss posited a 1m13.119s on lap 10 of 19, leading Crankt Protein Honda Racing teammate Bryan Staring.

Considering the wet and tricky conditions, times were particularly tight at the top in qualifying one as the top eight riders all lapped within the 1m13s bracket.

In third was Kawasaki-mounted privateer Josh Hook, who only decided to race this week, while Josh Waters (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar JD Racing Yamaha) filled the top five.

Behind them to complete the top 10 came Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha Racing Team), Mitch Levy (ATR Yamaha), Beau Beaton (Racers Edge Performance/McMartin Racing/North Coast V-Twins Ducati), Matt Walters (Swann Insurance Kawasaki) and Adam Senior (Yamaha).

Lone YRT rider Maxwell was a notable crasher during qualifying one, caught out by the conditions and going down in turn one. He later remounted on his back-up bike to end up sixth. Qualifying two is scheduled for 3:00pm local time.
