Local talent Toparis tops Wakefield Park Supersport qualifying

Opening ASBK support category races of the round run in Goulburn.

Cube Racing’s Tom Toparis sealed his first-career Motul Australian Supersport Championship pole position at Wakefield Park this afternoon.

In drying conditions, Toparis posted a 1m01.364s in the second session to lead Mark Chiodo (Triumph) and Sam Muldoon (Kawasaki) off the front row of the grid on Sunday.

The top nine were all within 0.958s, including Ted Collins (Suzuki), Nic Liminton (Yamaha), Chris Quinn (Yamaha), title-leader Mason Coote (Yamaha), Jordan Carlsson (Yamaha) and Giuseppe Scarcella (Kawasaki). Friday’s fastest Cambridge Olivier (Yamaha) was P10.

Race one of the Supersport 300 class saw Reid Battye (Kawasaki, Up To 300) win from Jack Mahaffy (Yamaha, Over 300) and Billy Van Eerde (KTM, Over 300). Ty Lynch (Yamaha) rounded out the Over 300 podium, while Drew Sells (Kawasaki) and Oli Bayliss (Kawasaki) completed the Up To 300 podium.

In the Yamaha Motor Finance R3 Cup Jack Passfield (Yamaha) won comfortably from Lynch and Tommy Edwards (Yamaha), who also dominated the GP Juniors Cup race over Joel Kelso (Yamaha) and John Lytras (Yamaha). Max Stauffer (Yamaha), son of multiple ASBK champion Jamie Stauffer, was P4.
