Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell was declared the victor in a dry race two of the Yamaha Motor Insurance Superbikes at Wakefield Park this afternoon.

A crash from Cru Halliday (IPONE/YMF/YMI Yamaha) caused a red flag in the closing stages and officials called the race as complete.

Maxwell was the winner after leading the entire classified distance, however it was Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) who worked his way into the lead just prior to the stoppage.

Because results reverted to lap 15, minus Halliday, Maxwell was credited the win by 0.527s over Herfoss and Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar JD Racing Yamaha) in a lonely third. Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Josh Waters was fourth this time around, from Bryan Staring (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) in P5.

The battle between Pirelli-equipped Maxwell and Dunlop-shod Halliday was an intriguing one for much of the race, until Herfoss stormed his way from well outside of the top 10 – he almost stalled off the start – to put himself in contention. It all went out the window when Halliday crashed at speed in turn three.

Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki BCperformance) brought it home in sixth, as Matt Walters (Swann Insurance Kawasaki) edged out Kyle Buckley (Kawasaki BCperformance) and Beau Beaton (Racers Edge Performance/McMartin Racing/North Coast V-Twins Ducati), with Michael Blair (Gosford Classic Car Museum/IPONE/YMI/John Singleton Group Yamaha) completing the top 10.

Overall Herfoss was the winner ahead of Maxwell and Bugden, as fifth overall was enough for Falzon to maintain the points lead by 13 over Herfoss and a further four ahead of Bugden. Maxwell, meanwhile has climbed to fourth, a further 10 points back.
