Winton the next stop for DesmoSport Ducati ASBK squad

DesmoSport Ducati press release:

Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) rookie Callum Spriggs will take to the track at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria this weekend, for round three of the 2017 season.

Spriggs has faced a steep learning curve to date in the premier class, however after taking pole position and a race win in Supersport at Winton last year, it’s a circuit he favours on the seven-round calendar.

DesmoSport Ducati recently conducted an important two-day test at the 3-kilometre Winton circuit as Spriggs continues to get to grips with the 1299 Panigale S, where he was 10th on combined times with a 1m22.500s lap-time.

“It was a pretty good test at Winton and I feel like round three should be a positive one for us,” Spriggs said. “I feel like we have a good setting going into Friday’s practice and I’m confident going into this round. Hopefully we can pick up where we left off at the test and it’s a technical track that I seem to like a lot.

“I’m hoping to move into the top 10 consistently and up toward the top seven. The plan is definitely to keep getting closer to the front and I’d be happy with that – I have been feeling better and better on the bike all the time and really appreciate the team’s help so far.”

Team co-owner Ben Henry, who is in partnership with three-time Superbike world champion and Ducati legend Troy Bayliss, is looking forward to Spriggs making more progression this weekend.

“The test was quite good for Callum and he is beginning to increase in confidence with each lap he spends on the Panigale,” Henry said. “We will continue to work closely with him, keep gaining experience and work our way up the order. This should be the best weekend for the team this season yet.”

Practice will commence with three sessions on Friday, before moving into qualifying on Saturday and a pair of 16-lap premier class races on Sunday. Both will be televised live on SBS from 12:30pm AEST, as well as live-streamed online.

The 2017 Australian Superbike Championship will continue with round three to be contested at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria on 28-30 April. Like DesmoSport Ducati on Facebook and visit www.asbk.com.au for further information.
