Spriggs to line-up P11 in Winton ASBK races

DesmoSport Ducati press release:

DesmoSport Ducati’s Callum Spriggs will start from 11th on the grid in Sunday’s third round of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) at Winton in Victoria.

Spriggs has consistently factored among the top 10 on the 1299 Panigale S this weekend and posted a personal best lap of 1m22.086s during the pair of 30-minute qualifying sessions this afternoon.

It was another encouraging effort for the youthful Queenslander in what is his rookie season in the premier class, due to start from the middle of row four in both of tomorrow’s two 16-lap races at the three-kilometre circuit.

“I’ve been top 10 in nearly every session and things have been going well this weekend,” Spriggs said. “I wanted to qualify within the front three rows and we were close, but got pipped in the end. Still happy though, it’s a really close field and I think we should be strong for tomorrow’s races. I really want to get a good start and go from there.”

DesmoSport Ducati team co-owner Ben Henry said it’s been a positive weekend for Spriggs and the team so far, anticipating a strong couple of races on Sunday. Both will be televised live on SBS from 12:30pm AEST, as well as live-streamed online.

“It’s really, really tight there and if Cal finds a few tenths he will be right in the game for a good race,” explained Henry. “He’s definitely moving forward and it’s not an easy year to turn up, but I reckon he’s doing a pretty good job. I can see every time he exits the pit he gains confidence and usually goes faster, so it’s on the right track and we look forward to Sunday.”
