Turner prepared for strong Phillip Island finish with DesmoSport Ducati

DesmoSport Ducati press release:

The DesmoSport Ducati team will return to racing action this weekend at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria for the final round of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK).

Superbike category rookie Corey Turner is prepared to finish out the year strongly aboard the 1299 Panigale S as he puts a small testing error behind him ahead of the 6-8 October race weekend.

“Ben [Henry] and the whole DesmoSport Ducati team have done an awesome job to get the Ducati 1299 Panigale S fixed after the crash I had at Phillip Island last week at the test,” said Turner.

“It’s looking really good and fast. The main thing is, before we had the crash we were making improvements and we will keep making improvements this weekend. Depending on the weather, we’ll see how we go.”

With room to improve on the world-famous Australian circuit, the 19-year-old will focus ahead and continue to push the pace throughout the weekend’s sessions.

“Obviously without the crash we would have been walking away happy,” he commented. “I still think we didn’t get our ultimate lap together, which I think is good for us. I know we can go quicker this weekend than what we did at the test, so we’ll keep aiming at that and just keep moving forward.”

Expecting strong results this weekend, team co-owner and three-time Superbike world champion Troy Bayliss believes guest rider Turner could again battle for podium positions at the final event of the year.

“We had a test last week, which enabled Corey to familiarise himself with the DesmoSport Ducati here as it was the first time he has ridden the bike around the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit,” Bayliss said.

“Corey was doing pretty well, baring the get off, but that happens. I believe we are looking at possibly scrapping for a podium position this weekend to finish the year off strong.”
