Australian Josh Brookes says it’s a wonderful feeling to claim second in the MCE British Superbike Championship, despite falling short of the title by three points.

In what was a dramatic finale at Brands Hatch over the weekend, where Brookes charged to 3-4 race results in the opening two outings, before taking home a thrilling win the final race of the season.

It just wasn’t quite enough for the Avil Hire Yamaha rider clinch the championship, however still pleased with his performance in 2017, Brookes extended his thanks to the outfit that assisted him to the exceptional result.

“I just gave it everything I had,” Brookes reflected. “It was a great relief to have the bike working very well in that last race, the first two races we had a couple of issues so to have the bike work perfectly in the last race was fantastic and I could ride confidently.

“To be sat here second in the championship is a wonderful feeling. I need to say a big thank you to the Winfield family, everybody already knows they are a family run team. They don’t have the huge amount of resources, fancy equipment and sponsors like some of the other teams, they purely do it by passion and the will to win, so they deserve credit as much as I do.”

It’s not yet clear whether Brookes will remain with the Anvil Hire Yamaha squad in 2018, although the team has mentioned it’s in the final stages of finalising its line-up for the new season.
