Oliveira secures commanding Moto2 Phillip Island victory

Tech 3 Racing's Gardner puts on impressive display to take 15th.

Red Bull KTM Ajo Miguel Oliveira has secured the Moto2 victory in commanding fashion at Phillip Island’s 16th round of the world championship today.

The Portuguese-native raced home to a convincing 2.974s win over teammate Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who settled into the runner-up position.

Third was credited to EG 0,0 Marc VDS’ Franco Morbidelli, just less than a second behind Binder, while Jesko Raffin (Garage Plus Interwetten) and Xavi Vierge (Tech 3 Racing) rounded out the fastest five.

In sixth was Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) followed by Simone Corsi (Speed Up Racing) in seventh, as eighth through to 10th was taken out by Dominique Aegerter (Kiefer Racing), Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Thomas Luthi (CarXpert Interwetten).

Moto2 regular and home Aussie favourite Remy Gardner (Tech 3 Racing) put on an impressive display, just making his way into the point paying position of 15th.

The premier MotoGP class is scheduled to hit the track later this afternoon at 4pm, which will prove to be pivotal race in the championship hunt.
