The Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday, 24 April, has been postponed in light of the earthquake and Tsunami that struck the country last Friday.
Following a request to Dorna and the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) from the promoters of the Japanese Grand Prix, it has been decided to postpone the race until later in the season.
The race will now take place on Sunday, 2 October, two weeks after the Aragon GP and a fortnight before the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
This is the second year in succession that the Japanese Grand Prix has had to be re-arranged due to natural disasters, after the 2010 event was cancelled from its original date due to the Icelandic volcano that erupted and caused flight cancellations due to the ash cloud.
