YRT boss Redding praises Yamaha performances at FX opener

Rookie Rick Olson impressed as he quickly adapted to the Yamaha's YZF-R1 FX-Superbike last weekend.

Yamaha Racing Team boss John Redding says the team’s results at the opening round of the Yamaha YMF Loan Australian FX-Superbike Championship were right on par as Kevin Curtain won ahead of rookie teammate Rick Olson.

Redding praised the performances of both Curtain and Olson, as well as third team rider Pat Medcalf and YRD support riders Cru Halliday and Mike Jones.

Metcalf finished fourth in FX-Superbike to edge out Halliday, while Jones put in a stellar performance to beat Curtain on Saturday during the FX Nationas in the FX600 category. He crashed out on Sunday after winning race one.

“Overall, it was a pretty good opening weekend for the YRT crew and the 2011 championship,” Redding reflected. “A good roll up of riders, supporters and spectators made for a good atmosphere while the on track action was close and exciting.

“Fortunately YRT came away with some good results and all three of our factory riders as well as our YRD supported riders showed good form and promise for the season ahead. Winning both classes always feels good as a team and that’s our goal every time we hit the track.

“Kevin was just sensational again, while Rick impressed on a much more powerful bike. Pat was looking exceptionally good until he ran off in the second race and the YRD guys of Jones and Halliday continue to improve and impress.”

Round two of FX will take place at Wakefield Park in NSW on 29 April.
