Barry Sheene Festival of Speed set for sixth annual event

The sixth annual Barry Sheene Festival of Speed is coming up on 1 April at Eastern Creek.

The sixth annual Barry Sheene Festival of Speed is coming up on 1 April at Eastern Creek.

More than 300 bikes and a record number of riders from Australia and New Zealand, will converge on Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Raceway for the sixth Annual Barry Sheene Festival of Speed on 1-3 April.

For the first time in the event’s history, the iconic meet will incorporate the the Trans-Tasman Challenge – pitting some of Australia’s best riders against the pick of the crop from New Zealand.

NZ’s team will include former dual TT World Champion, Suzuka 8-hour winner and World 500cc Championship runner-up Graeme Crosby.

Crosby is making the trip to Sydney, not only to compete at the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed, but also to launch his first book, Croz: Larrikin Biker.

Other big names to join Crosby on track include former World Endurance Champion Warwick Nowland, former Australian Superbike Champion Robbie Phillis and many more.

In another first for this year’s event is the inclusion of round one of the Australian F1 Side-Car Championship and will also feature a host of big name riders and teams including Australia’s Shane Souter and the all-female outfit of Tracy Anderson and Jo Mickelson.

“Last year’s program at the Barry Sheene Festival saw some awesome events with people like Robbie Phillis, Warwick Nowland and Leo Cash banging fairings in some very close racing on the big bikes, with Doug Chivas, Shane Souter and others battling close in the Sidecars,” said event organiser, Peter Mcmillan.

“It’s not everyday that we get to see these guys having a go like that, so, it’s a real thrill to hear and see them banging around an iconic circuit like Eastern Creek.

“This year’s event will not only feature exceptional racing of some fabulous bikes and riders. But, for the first time will have Club and Trade displays, as well as a Show and Shine for the visitor’s enjoyment, right in the pits, at the side of the circuit.

“Plus, spectators can access the pit area and see their favorites and their bikes up close, which is something no longer available at higher profile racing events these days,” concluded Mcmillan.

The 2011 Barry Sheene Festival of Speed Trans-Tasman Challenge shapes up to be a real winner all round for everybody and kicks off at Eastern Creek International Raceway.

Entry is just $20 on Saturday and $25 for Sunday. Concession just $15 both days.
