Third round ASBK Support category racing underway

Support category racing has commenced during this weekend’s third round of the Australian Superbike Championship, with the Prostock, Superstock and Superlites kicking off proceedings this afternoon.

The BMW Prostock-spec machines of Linden Magee and John Ross troubled Yamaha’s title leader Cru Halliday in the category’s opening race but were unable to reel him in.

Two red flags saw the race declared early, with Suzuki Racesafe quickly attending to riders involved in two separate incidents at the end of the high-speed front straight.

Despite strong opposition in the early stages from Daniel Falzon, Mike Jones again managed to clear out on the field in the opening Suzuki Superstock race of the weekend.

Today’s polesitter continued his perfect run of results in addition to further lowering the class lap record to 1:12.450s – previously 1:12.790s.

Josh Hook held off Nicky Diles by 0.258s in a hard-fought Motul Superlites race today. The field will contest two further races tomorrow, with the unbeaten Hook sure to be targeted.
