Aussie Josh Brookes crashed out of the Brands Hatch BSB round.

Aussie Josh Brookes suffered a spectacular highside in the opening race of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship and the Relentless Suzuki rider admits he is disappointed as he thought he could challenge for the victory.

Brookes had overcome his fourth row start to be challenging in the leading group and was up to second when he suffered a high-speed crash on the exit of Paddock Hill Bend.

“I got up straight away so I wasn’t actually knocked out, but I just felt a bit hazy,” Brookes explained. “I remember the whole crash and I knew it was going to be a big one and I was lucky to walk away from it without any injury.

“It came as a bit of a surprise as there wasn’t really any warning – the rear just came round on me and then I was up in the air and waiting to crash back down to earth.

“It’s a real shame as we were up to speed and I really thought we could fight for the win. You have to push to the limit in the races and I think we showed what we were capable of so now I just want to get on to Oulton Park next weekend.”

The Relentless Suzuki team are now eager to look ahead to Oulton Park next weekend, Brookes ruled out of race two due to a concussion.
