Jamie Stauffer and Wayne Maxwell both featured on the podium in Perth.
Dual Australian Superbike Champion Jamie Stauffer has credited Team Honda Racing for making improvements in the short turnaround between Darwin and Barbagallo’s Australian Superbike rounds.
Stauffer suffered from a disastrous DNF with technical problems in race two at Hidden Valley, as did teammate Wayne Maxwell, however he and the team were able to regroup for third overall with 3-4 results in Western Australia a fortnight later.
“The team have turned things around very quickly since Darwin and our results prove that this weekend,” Stauffer reflected. “I would have liked to have been higher on the podium and taken more points in the championship, but we learned a lot over the weekend and I’m looking forward to Queensland.”
Stauffer is confident the team can make further inroads to series leader Glenn Allerton with some testing at Queensland Raceway in the coming weeks.
“We are hoping to do some testing prior to round five in Queensland as there are a couple of things to focus on with the set-up of the CBR1000RR coming out of this event,” he added.
Teammate Wayne Maxwell also bounced back to the podium in Perth, finishing second overall after snatching his third Superpole of the year.
“I got a great start off the line in race one and was able to lead for most of the race,” Maxwell explained. “I felt really comfortable, but as can happen in racing I got caught in traffic after Allerton passed me and it held me up. It was unfortunate, but it happens.”
Team principle Paul Free explained the improvements for the team in between rounds.
“The few days between the Darwin round and the Perth round were a whirlwind and although we were hoping to take the win this weekend, the results are strong and show that we are heading in the right direction,” Free said.
“Wayne taking Superpole and second overall with Jamie in third overall proves this, however I am never happy until we are in top spot and neither is my team. We have a few weeks until Round five in Queensland so there is some work to do.
“I am looking forward to getting up there and moving further forward.”
The Queensland round will take place on 3-5 June.
