The Yamaha Australian Supermoto Championship will feature at the remaining two standalone rounds of the QBE Insurance Australian Superbike Championships at Queensland Raceway on 3-5 June and Phillip Island on 18-20 November.
The class proved a success with spectators at last year’s Queensland event, prompting organisers to expand its involvement. It bridges the gap between road and off-road racing and by including it on the national calendar IEG hopes to encourage new competitors to the sport.
In addition to the S1 & S2 Supermoto class, raced on both bitumen and dirt, the 450 Supermoto RR class has been added and will compete just on bitumen.
The 450 RR class will make use of existing tracks while S1 and S2 competitors do battle on a custom-built track utilising natural and man-made jumps.
Supermoto will boost a diverse schedule of regular ASBK road race classes including Superbike, Supersport, Prostock, Superstock, Superlites and sidecars.
