Anstey victorious as tragedy strikes in Supersport Race 1 at IoM TT

Kiwi Bruce Anstey won the Supersport race at the Isle of Man TT on Monday.

Kiwi Bruce Anstey won the Supersport race at the Isle of Man TT on Monday.

Experienced Kiwi campaigner Bruce Anstey won his eighth Isle of Man TT race on Monday afternoon when he clinched victory in a shortened, and dramatic, three-lap Monster Energy Supersport Race 1.

The original race was red flagged following an incident at Gorse Lea, which sadly claimed the life of Irishman Derek Brien, 34, who is the third person to be killed at the event in 2011.

Padgetts Honda rider Anstey took the win by 8.39s when Aussie race leader Cameron Donald retired his Wilson Craig Honda at Kirk Michael on the final lap.

Anstey was able to come home ahead of Keith Amor, who notched up his best ever TT result, and Guy Martin, the Relentless by TAS Suzuki man having been able to make the race after an earlier spill at Creg ny Baa.

John McGuinness, who took fifth, continues to lead the TT Championship with 36 points, three ahead of Amor.
