Chris Quinn (Coopers Pale Ale/Holmes Extractive Resources Yamaha) claimed the Australian Supersport Championship pole position with a 1m12.471 in Queensland Raceway’s Superpole session today.

Quinn edged out fellow Yamaha rider Ryan Taylor (Pirelli/Motul/SW Racing/YRD Yamaha) by just 0.093s, Taylor setting a best of 1m12.564.

“Qualifying went to plan for us,” Quinn explained. “We had to use the same tyres for the first two Superpole sectors so I went out and put down two hard laps then parked the bike.

“We know we have a good setup, we tested here last week and the times were really consistent. We had the new tyre for the last sector and it was all go from there.”

Reigning 250 Production champion Luke Burgess (Mackay Kawasaki/Kawasaki/Tomsey Racing/KMF Kawasaki) was a solid third with 1m12.658, while fellow rising star Michael Blair (Blairbuild/YRD/JoeGroot Civil/Finson Yamaha) completes the front row with a 1m12.745.

Burgess fell during SP3 in pursuit of pole, uninjured and later returning to the track on his 250 Production bike.

Despite a frustrating fall during SP2, series leader Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar/EPSA/Yamaha) edged into the top five, the last rider under the 1m13 bracket with a 1m12.745.

Today’s Superpole session was the first of the new eliminator format in Supersport, featuring 13 riders in SP1, nine in SP2 and five in the pole-deciding SP3.
