Maxwell leads Suzuki sweep in first Superbike race in Sydney

Team Suzuki claimed a 1-2 finish in the opening Australian Superbike Championship race of the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park this afternoon.

Team Suzuki claimed a 1-2 finish in the opening Australian Superbike Championship race of the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park this afternoon.

Wayne Maxwell broke through for his maiden victory aboard the Phil Tainton Racing-prepared GSX-R1000, winning by 4.305 seconds ahead of Volvo Group-backed teammate Robbie Bugden.

Championship leader Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports / Dynotech / Maxima / BMW) was third, 7.722s in arrears of Maxwell and first non-Dunlop runner on his Pirelli-shod HP4.

Team Honda Racing rider Jamie Stauffer was fourth, narrowly ahead of impressive rookie Glenn Scott on the privateer InsureMyRide Racing CBR1000RR.

The second Supersport race of the weekend is scheduled for 3:00pm this afternoon. Race two of the Superbikes will take place at 3:55pm.
