Team Suzuki’s Wayne Maxwell extended his Australian Superbike Championship lead with the race two and overall victory during Sydney Motorsport Park’s fifth round on Sunday.

Maxwell worked his way to the front on lap six of 12, winning by 0.989s from early race leader Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports BMW).

“These guys have been riding awesome all year, so I’m happy to have my weekend here and I’m really happy for Team Suzuki,” Maxwell said. “My lap times have been consistent all weekend, the Dunlops were working well, so it’s awesome!”

Allerton led a tight five-rider freight train of riders all finishing within half a second, edging out Josh Hook (Team Honda Racing), Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing), Robbie Bugden (Team Volvo Group Suzuki) and Glenn Scott (InsureMyRide Racing Honda).

Overall it was Maxwell who won the round from Bugden, with Allerton third in his return to the podium following a disastrous fourth round yesterday.

“There was plenty going on in that one – we were dicing hard,” Bugden said. “Overall it’s been a great weekend for us, the Suzuki’s going great and I can’t say enough.”

“I can’t believe I’m standing here after the weekend I’ve had,” Allerton admitted. “But the team’s been working extremely hard and big thanks to them.”

In the championship it’s Maxwell who has taken charge, leading by 24 points over Allerton, who is now tied with Bugden in third.
