Alex Lowes got his home round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship off to a flying start as the Samsung Honda rider topped the second free practice session at Cadwell Park, snatching the position from Josh Brookes in the final moments.

Lowes had been fastest on track in the early stages of the second session with dry conditions this afternoon at the Lincolnshire circuit, however a high-flying Brookes and defending champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne both had a spell at the top of the times.

Brookes looked set to hold the lead position in the closing stages however Lowes was on a charge and the Samsung Honda rider was able to have the edge at the end of the session.

There were two Tyco Suzukis in the top three this afternoon as PJ Jacobsen had an impressive start to his weekend in third place as the American prepares for his first race at Cadwell Park.

Jacobsen had pushed Byrne back to fourth on the leading Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki with fellow triple champion Ryuichi Kiyonari just adrift in fifth on the second of the Samsung Hondas.

Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters slotted his Milwaukee Yamaha into 14th, 2.088s off the pace of Lowes.

Smiths Racing Triumph were back on top of the times in the second free practice session for the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Cadwell Park as Billy McConnell claimed the top spot from Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson. Standings leader Alastair Seeley ending the day in third.

Graeme Gowland and Jason O’Halloran had been moving up the order during the session but the pair both had individual crashes at Charlies. Both riders were uninjured but were unable to complete the closing stages of the session.

O’Halloran ended fourth fastest after setting the pace this morning.
