Monster Energy Tech3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow has claimed pole position for the Czech Republic Grand Prix, posting the fastest ever lap of the Brno circuit in a sizzling qualifying session.

Crutchlow posted a 1m55.527 in the closing minutes of qualifying aboard the satellite YZR-M1, edging out early pace-setter Alvaro Bautista (Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini).

“It’s a good job for the Monster Tech3 team, we’ve progressed in every session,” Crutchlow commented. “It’s nice to take a true pole, because at Assen Jorge wasn’t able to ride so it’s a good result.

“I look forward to tomorrow in the race, hopefully we can finish on the podium and finish these next three strong – that’s the key heading into Silverstone.”

Bautista ended up 0.227s behind for second, while world championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) completes the front row despite aborting his final laps of the session.

Row two will feature title contenders Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha), joined by Crutchlow’s impressive rookie teammate Bradley Smith.

Concluding the top 10 is Valentino Rossi (Yamaha Racing), Friday pace-setter Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda), plus Ducati pairing Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden.

Australian Bryan Staring qualified his FTR-Honda in 24th for the Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini effort.

Alex Rins scored the pole position in Moto3, while Jack Miller stunned in his return from injury to slot his Honda into fourth. Countryman Arthur Sissis made it two Aussies in the top 10 with eighth.

In form Japanese ace Takaaki Nakagami rode to pole in the Moto2 session, with Queensland’s Anthony West recovering from an early incident to qualify 24th.
