The Victorian Road Racing Championship (VRRC) will be brought back in house and promoted by Motorcycling Victoria’s (MV) Road Race Committee from season 2014 onwards.

International Entertainment Group (IEG), also the promoter of the Australian Superbike Championship, took over the promotion of the VRRC in 2012.

Under IEG’s direction the VRRC increased its average number of entrants per round from 2011 figures of 97.5 to 2012’s 107.7.

“It’s an exciting time for the sport in Victoria,” said MV chief executive Andrew Weiss. “IEG have done a tremendous job in promoting and enhancing the competition in Victoria, and now is the perfect time to hand the baton over to our Road Race Committee who have a clear vision of where the sport needs to be in Victoria in the future.

“I would like to thank managing director Yarrive Konsky and the team at IEG who have laid the foundation for the sport’s future success.”

MV’s Road Race Committee is made up of 12 members – Kelly Spargo (chairperson), Vic O’Driscoll, Darren Sciberras, Don Street, Ron Matthews, Doug Dukes, Rick Johnson, Bruce Hill, Duncan Rogers, Glenn Nankervis, Chris Grubb and Rob Jenner.

Ms. Spargo said the commission members had led the push for the VRRC to be run as an in-house operation.

“IEG have been fantastic over the last few years promoting our top competition,” said Spargo.

“We have members on the committee who are keen to take over the reins of a number of areas of the competition, which includes administration and promotion.

“We’re all really looking forward to 2014 and what it will bring for the VRRC.”
