Tissot will act as naming sponsor for the 25th Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The 2013 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island has attracted title sponsorship from renowned Swiss watchmaker and long-time MotoGP partner Tissot.

The 18-20 October event will be known as the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, expanding upon the brand’s current role as the official timekeeper of MotoGP.

Dorna commercial managing director Pau Serracanta said the sponsorship was a natural extension of Tissot’s current and long-held commitment to the sport.

“Tissot is already an established brand in MotoGP and has an important role as the official timekeeper,” explained Serracanta.

“For years, the names Tissot and MotoGP have gone together, and the fact that it has opted to be the title sponsor of a Grand Prix like Australia strengthens this successful relationship immensely.”

Tissot president François Thiébaud was pleased to announce the sponsorship for the event as it celebrates 25 years since the first World Championship race at the iconic circuit.

“Becoming the title sponsor for the 2013 Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at such a legendary circuit, combined with our timekeeping services, will serve to further highlight the precision and performance of our products to fans all around the world during a key period in the MotoGP World Championship,” said Thiébaud.

The Swiss brand will also continue its current pole position award program, where the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 riders to secure the top grid spot are awarded a limited-edition Tissot timepiece.

There are less than 50 days to the running of the 2013 event, widely regarded as the start of the sport’s ‘new era’ with the introduction of superstars such as current points leader Marc Marquez.
