Despite a short turnaround following surgery, it was not the painful collarbone injury yet a poor tyre choice that saw Aussie Moto3 battle Jack Miller lose touch with the top five in the latter stages of the Brno Grand Prix.

The teenager broke his collarbone at the Indianpolis Grand Prix, but, unperturbed, was back on the bike at the Czech Republic and running strongly from the outset.

The Caretta Technology – RTG rider qualified his Honda in a credible fourth place, and made a typically fast start to the grand prix.

“The race was good and I was with the leaders, but I was having to do too many short bursts, dropping back then catching up again,” explained Miller.

Tyre wear was accentuated from lap 10 onwards, as Miller struggled to maintain ground amongst the lead pack.

He scored valuable points for seventh but was disappointed to be held back by his bike.

“With 10 laps gone the tyre was just destroyed, and it was a matter of trying to finish,” he continued. “My collarbone was quite good – it hurt a bit, but didn’t affect me.

“It was all down to tyre wear. We chose the soft option, so I think we need to be a bit smarter with tyre choice. But I’m happy to get some points.”

Miller was able to climb back up a rung on the championship ladder and now sits seventh after 10 grands prix contested.
