Aaron Morris (Ohlins/Arrow/Pirelli/PK Bell/Alpinestars/Five Gloves Yamaha) has kept the Motul Australian Supersport Championship alive going into the final race of the season in a few hours time, pinching the race one victory at Phillip Island’s final round.

Morris smashed the field by a whopping 10.284 seconds over the championship leader Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar/EPSA/Yamaha) in the opening 12-lap affair of the weekend.

The first few opening laps were a ding-dong battle between Michael Blair (Blair Build/YRD/ Joe Groot Civil Yamaha) who had the early lead from Morris, Falzon, Ryan Talyor (Pirelli/Motul/Mupo/SW Racing Yamaha) and Aaron Gobert (Bell/Dunlop/Alpinestars/Ballistic/Dyno Jet Kawasaki). At half race distance Morris put his head down and simply ran away from everyone.

“I was a little concerned about the oil at turn two [which was dumped by the sportscars early in the day],” said Morris, who now trails Falzon by 14 points.

“I took it easy for the first few laps just to conserve my rear tyre, when I decided to go, I just pulled away really. There is not a lot I can really do, it’s still a little bit too far behind in the championship to do anything really, so I just decided to go out and win the race as much as possible.”

Blair rounded out the top three from Taylor in fourth who seems to be back on the pace after his bad luck rounds at SMP and Darwin and Gobert in fifth.
