Australia's West edges his way into the top 10 at the penultimate stop.
Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing’s Toni Elias has been crowned the 2017 MotoAmerica champion after dominating the ninth round in New Jersey last weekend.
The opening race saw Elias battle with teammate Roger Hayden right down to wire, crossing the line just 0.039s ahead of his fellow Suzuki rider, enough for him to win the title.
Behind the battle for the top spot was Josh Hayes (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing) in third, followed by Josh Herrin (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing) and Jake Gagne (Genuine Broaster Chicken Honda) in fourth and fifth respectively.
Australia’s Anthony West (Fly Street/Motul Oils/ADR Motorsports) was 12th in the opening outing, as 2016 champion Cameron Beaubier (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing) was absent due to injury.
Race two was all about newly-crowned champ Elias, who this time was able to stretch out a comfortable 1.946s advantage to complete what was a phenomenal weekend.
Kyle Wyman (YCRS/Cambr/KWR) was an impressive second followed by Hayden, while it was Gagne and Hayes who closed out the top five. West was able to improve on his race one result to end the day with a 10th place score.
The MotoAmerica Championship now heads to Alabama for the final round of the series, scheduled for 15-17 September.
