Factory Honda ace feeling optimistic ahead of the second round this weekend.
Penrite Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss will be aiming for a third-straight victory at Wakefield Park’s second round of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) this weekend in New South Wales after securing wins at the venue in 2016 and 2017.
In what will be just his second race weekend with the newly-formed factory Honda outfit, Herfoss is feeling very optimistic heading to the Goulburn circuit following a positive and rewarding outing at last week’s test.
“It’s going to be a good weekend for Penrite Honda Racing and I’m looking forward to it as always,” Herfoss explained. “The past four years have been really good for me at Wakefield Park despite a little bit of bad luck here and there, but generally we can get a lot out of the bike there. We’ve just got to put our heads down, hope for some good weather this year and I’d like to make the most of the weekend in good conditions.
“We completed a number of race-runs at the test and the bike is working well, so it’s making my job a lot easier. We’re really starting to fine-tune things now working with the K-Tech Suspension, so it’s good to get the regular season underway.”
The venue essentially serves as a home round for the now Gold Coast-based rider, who grew up in the region. The number 17 highlighted the minimal room for error at the circuit, explaining the physical nature of the track will play into his favour.
“Being up-front is always important at this round, you need a good starting position and if you make a mistake there, you’re usually in the gravel-trap – there’s no room for error. I like it though, it’s a tough track and it’s really physical, which is where we seem to be pretty strong at the moment.”
The multi-time Australian superbike champion currently sits third in the series standings after just one round, where he lodged an encouraging scorecard of 1-4-4 results.
