Next Gen Motorsport BMW’s Glenn Allerton returned the winners circle in race two of the weekend’s national Superbike category held in conjunction with the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Nearing three years between race wins, the electrifying triumph on Saturday was a special reward for the three-time Australian Superbike champion after his 2018 campaign was hindered by multiple injuries sustained in a motocross incident.

The number 14 wound up second overall at Phillip Island with a 2-1-3 scorecard, falling just two points shy of eventual victory Troy Bayliss (DesmoSport Ducati).

“It simply feels awesome to win the race,” said Allerton. “It’s great for me, and just so nice to reward the team for all of their hard work they have done. We’ll enjoy this.

“Overall it’s been a good weekend, but not exactly where I wanted to end up. However, the team and I took the race win yesterday, which was a big positive. I’m just so happy to be back running at the front of the field.”

Completing the ASBK championship in ninth after missing two rounds, Allerton’s racing plans for 2019 are still to be confirmed.
