Suzuki’s unveiling of its Suzuki GSX-R1000 concept 2017 model at the EICMA show in Italy overnight was flanked by a the return of the SV650 nakedbike and funky little Van Van 200 roadster.

While the GSX-R1000, expected to arrive by the end of next year, stole the show (click here for details), Suzuki’s introductions also included details of other models to be included in the 2016 line-up.

For 2016, Suzuki has re-introduced the SV650. The new SV650 has greater engine performance, class-leading fuel economy, lighter weight all in a sharperer looking package. There has been an emphasis placed on making the SV an easy to use machine with the engine and chassis updates.

The 645cc DOHC 90-degree V-twin engine of the SFV650 is refined with more than 60 new parts, to both increase power and conform to stricter Euro4 emission requirements. The 3kW increase takes peak power to 56kW and is combined with no change in the 64Nm of peak torque. However, the torque has been stretched through the rev range and peaks 2000rpm higher at 8100rpm.

With a further 80 parts in the chassis redesigned, the overall changes to the SV combined to reduce curb mass by eight kilograms. The seat height is a low 785mm with a narrower standover from the redesigned bodywork, wet weight is 197kg and a Low RPM Assist helps riders in taking off from a start and riding at lower rpm.

Suzuki’s Van Van 200 is a 199cc, air-cooled single built for brisk response and easy handling. Tuned for low-to-mid range power and street-friendly power characteristics, it’d make a great around town machine.

Carefully selected gear ratios provide smooth acceleration from each gear while the wide, spacious, generously cushioned seat and low 770mm seat height make it a comfortable ride for both rider and pillion.

The Van Van rolls on a 18-inch 130/80 front tyre and extra-wide 14-inch 180/80 rear tyre to give it a striking look. At the front, 33mm forks and a single-shock absorber at the rear with 130mm of wheel travel give supple handling performance while a basic disc brake with two-piston caliper and rear drum brake provide all the stopping power you need.
