Yamaha’s 2015 YZF-R1 and R1M are undergoing a field service campaign to replace the gearbox in the all-new superbike. The gearbox issues relate to component strength and stress concentration on the second gear wheel and pinion gears under certain riding conditions.

“Yamaha takes great care in creating the highest possible quality product,”said Yamaha Motor Australia’s Sean Goldhawk. “Our reputation for reliability is second to none, and we aim to maintain our impeccable track record of creating well-built and durable products which is why we have initiated a field service campaign to cover the rare cases of transmission issues experienced under extreme conditions on YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M models.”

Yamaha Motor Australia is replacing the entire gear cluster of all affected units free of charge and have made it possible for dealers to offer an MT-09 as a courtesy bike while the work is being done.
