Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell will start out of pole position in Sunday’s third round of the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli at Winton.

Maxwell posted a scorching 1m20.290s lap-time around the three-kilometre Victorian venue to set a new circuit best – the fastest ever two-wheel lap.

Behind Maxwell came practice pace-setter Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing), who set his 1m20.568s on lap two, as Josh Waters (Team Suzuki Ecstar) completed the front row.

Fourth was Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar JD Racing Yamaha) after he recovered from a fall this morning, while Cru Halliday (IPONE/YMF/YMI Yamaha) was fifth and the final rider beneath the 1m21s bracket.

Bryan Staring (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) ended up sixth after going down again during the session, as Alex Phillis (Arnold’s Fruit Market/Apex Civil/Helicraft Racing Yamaha), Josh Hook (Racer’s Edge Performance/McMartin Racing Ducati), Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki BCperformance) and Troy Guenther (Next Gen Motorsports BMW) filled the top 10.
