Taking prime position in trade alley at round 3 of the Woodstock Bourbon Australian Superbike Championship at QLD Raceway, the Leukaemia Foundation (Official Charity of the ASBK) raised over $1000 for patients and families living with the devastating effects of the disease.

The ASBK were more than happy to provide a brand new Z1R Helmet signed by Team Joe Rocket Suzuki’s Josh Waters as first prize and a Woodstock Bourbon Jacket as second prize.

The display and raffle were hugely successful for the charity and QLD Volunteer & Branch Coordinator Wayne Gaddes was elated by both the exposure and funds the Leukaemia Foundation raised.

“We were really happy with how the whole weekend went. All our volunteers had a great time and the support we got from the crowd was absolutely overwhelming”.

“The local branch members worked tirelessly at selling raffle tickets and the money raised will help the Leukaemia Foundation continue to provide free support services to patients and their families living with leukaemias and other blood cancers. The Foundation also funds cutting edge medical research into better treatments and cures.”

The ASBK are proud to support the Leukaemia Foundation in raising funds and awareness of just how prevalent the disease is today.

Leukaemia: The Facts

– Leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time.
– Leukaemia is the most common form of childhood cancer yet more than 90% of Australians diagnosed with leukaemia are adults (the majority over 50 years old).
– It is estimated that every two hours, someone loses their life to leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
– In 2009, 9,792 Australians are projected to be diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma; the equivalent of at least one every hour.
– Research has made a difference in our lifetime. In the last 20 years, survival rates for children with leukaemia has increased significantly, so that most children now survive (80% survive ten years).
